8 consecutive Wednesdays 6:30-9:30 pm.

Course Length: (8) 3-hour studio sessions

Materials Provided: The supply fee includes one 25 lb. bag of clay, use of Fire Arts glazes, and the firings. Clay is available for purchase if the student needs more.

Student Enrollment: 8 students maximum

About your instructor:
Katharine Schmidt has twenty years of experience as a ceramic sculptor and college professor. She holds an MFA from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. You have likely seen her work in exhibits around the region.

About this class:
Do you love clay and want to build natural-looking figure and animal sculptures? Do you want a chance to let your imagination run wild under the guidance an experienced artist and teacher?

In this class we will learn about the possibilities of clay and textures through basic slab and other hand-building techniques. Learn to make correctly proportioned faces, heads, and hands using templates to guarantee success the first time.

Advanced students with a concept for their project are welcome. If you need ideas, we will brainstorm together. Or you can simply follow along with the instructor. Look forward to leaving the class with new skills and creative possibilities!

All levels are welcome. Some hand-building experience is helpful but not required.

Studio Space:  Students enrolled in this class are eligible to partake in one additional open studio session (instructor not present) per week during the span of the eight-week workshop. This works out to be 8 instructor-led sessions and 8 open studio sessions. The Open Studio sessions coincide with our regular business hours: Tuesdays and Thursdays-noon to 9 pm; Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays- noon to 5 pm.
