Fire Arts Inc presents Beginning Wheel Thrown Pottery

Student Enrollment: 7 students maximum
Studio Space: Students enrolled in this class are eligible for one additional day per week of open studio time during FAI regular hours. Studio hours are listed on the website and front door.

The supply fee includes one 25 lb. bag of class (half a box) and use of Fire Arts Inc. food safe Glazes for your work. A unique Raku experience is planned for the final night of class. Pieces that will be Raku fired will use a clear glaze specifically for that firing process.
Beginning Wheel Thrown Pottery
This class is perfect for the student who wants an introduction to or refresher on making pottery with the potter’s wheel. The basics of clay working and throwing techniques will be demonstrated and students will have ample opportunities to practice and develop their skills.

Session 1: Monday, January 13th, Quick studio tour and practice centering on the wheel
Session 2: Monday, January 20th, Bowls and more bowls
Session 3: Monday, January 27th, Saucers, Plates, Platters
Session 4: Monday, February 3rd, Cups and Mugs with Handles/Handle making
Session 5: Monday, February 10th, Vases and Vessels with inverted and exverted rims.
Session 6: Monday, February 17th, Student Choice night (wadayannamake?) This is the last day for wet clay. Your clay pieces must be dry enough for bisque firing and glazing for the next session.
Session 7: Monday, February 24th, Glaze purposes, chemistry, glazing and loading the first glazed kiln.
Session 8: Monday, March 5th, Raku Night, and wrap up anything not yet glazed.
