Introduction to Pottery (Good Night Clay)

Elisabeth Simeri will be your instructor for this course.

Class: 8 Mondays 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Course Length: 8 two-hour studio sessions

Dates: May 20th thru July 15th, 2024

Cost: $250 ($210 Tuition + $40 Materials which includes one 25lb bag of clay, Fire Arts Glazes and firing of work. Glazes are food safe. Work is fired to Cone 6.)

Level: Beginning and Intermediate adult students welcome.

Format: We will work with wet clay weeks 1-7 and glaze on week 8.

This class will focus on building a strong foundation for working in clay, in a fun and encouraging environment. We will cover basic hand building techniques then concentrate on wheel throwing. Students are encouraged to create an idea journal/sketchbook so that they can start to develop their personal aesthetic. Students may work on their own one additional day per week during Fire Arts business hours.

Summer Evening Session 1 2024

Week 1: Monday, May 20th – Introduction and basic hand building techniques

Week 2: Monday, June 3rd – Wheel throwing foundations and forms

Week 3: Monday, June 10th – Wheel throwing practice -Bowls

Week 4: Monday, June 17th- Wheel throwing practice – Cylinders and Trimming

Week5: Monday, June 24th- Wheel throwing practice – Saucers and small plates, handles for cups

Week 6:  Monday, July1 st- Wheel throwing practice makes perfect 😊

Week 7: Monday, July 8th – Complete all wet work for bisque firing

Week 8: Monday, July 15th – Glaze day! Basic information about glazes and how-to’s

Open Studio Access: Students enrolled in this class are welcome to open studio time one additional day per week.  This Open Studio Time, the instructor will not be present.  Studio hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays noon to 9 p.m., Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays noon to 5 p.m.
